  1. Installation:
  2. =============
  3. As with any autoconfiguring GNU software, installation is as easy as this:
  4. $ ./configure
  5. $ make
  6. $ make check
  7. $ make install
  8. You need GNU make. On HP-UX, you also need GNU sed.
  9. Known to work with:
  10. - Linux/x86, gcc-2.95.x, gcc-3.0(pre)
  11. - Linux/ia64, gcc-2.96, gcc-3.0(pre)
  12. - Linux/arm, gcc-2.95.3
  13. - Linux/sparc, gcc-2.95.3
  14. - Linux/alpha, gcc-2.95.x
  15. - Linux/powerpc, gcc-2.95.x
  16. - Solaris 2.4 (sparc), gcc-2.95
  17. - OSF/1 V4.0 (alpha), gcc-2.95
  18. - Irix 6.5, gcc-2.95.x
  19. - BeOS, gcc-2.95.x
  20. The "make" step takes about 1 hour, on a P-II / 400 MHz / 64 MB.
  21. If you use g++ gcc-2.95.x or gcc-3.0, I recommend adding "-fno-exceptions"
  22. to the CXXFLAGS. This will likely generate better code.
  23. If you use g++ from gcc-2.95.x on Sparc, add either "-O", "-O1" or
  24. "-O2 -fno-schedule-insns" to the CXXFLAGS. With full "-O2", g++ miscompiles
  25. the division routines. Also, on OSF/1 or Tru64 using gcc-2.95.x, you should
  26. specify --disable-shared because of linker problems with duplicate symbols
  27. in shared libraries.
  28. More detailed installation instructions can be found in the documentation,
  29. in the doc/ directory.
